The Micro Convention featured workshops, lectures, magic demos, hands-on breakout sessions by various members of the Mighty Magic Factory Team and was hosted by Creative Director, Magic Babe Ning. The Micro Convention started at 7.30pm with
registration, a mix & mingle session and a mini dealer’s booth by Magic
Boutique,
10
minutes later, participants gathered into an inner room where the main
general lectures were held. Against a black backdrop and a giant poster of
the Micro Convention,
Shawn’s lecture was on "How to Engage Different Kids of Different Ages with Magic & Comedy". In the 45min talk with live performance demonstrations, Shawn shared his expert knowledge and experience in performing for children of various age groups. His real-life examples and scenarios helped participants understand how comedy and magic are used to engage and hold the attention of children.
Next up was a ‘show & tell’ session by members of the Mighty Magic Factory Team. Ning, Sherman AKA Agent 81 and Shawn took turns performing some "Easy but Amazing Magic Tricks for Kids". These were simple but very effective magic effects carefully selected by Mighty Magic Factory. The props and apparatus needed with also made available to the participants through Magic Boutique.
After the break, the participants were divided into two groups; the beginners took part in break out sessions where they had hands-on practice performing the magic effects demonstrated in the previous lecture. The beginners formed multiple groups and took turns learning different effects from the various Mighty Magic Factory trainers.
The other half of the participants attended the "Show Production for Live Kids Shows" Pro Lecture by J C Sum, Executive Producer of Mighty Magic Factory. He shared with participants his wealth of experience in show production and showed how he would design a kids’ show for today. While J C now primarily does large-scale illusion shows only, his 7-year experience as a kids/ family magician shone through in the lecture.
The event came to a close at around 10.30pm but many participants stayed behind to mingle with the lecturers as well as continued to look through the wares at the Magic Boutique booth.
‘Hocus
Pocus: Focus on Kids’ was a tremendous success and garnered much
positive feedback from the participants. If your organization is interested to run a professional magic workshop for adults or children, please contact us info@mightymagicfactory.com
